A holiday celebrated on February 14th Valentine's Day or traditionally known as Saint Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day is a Holiday celebrated by lover's to express their Love for each other, by sending gifts,flowers and especially some form of a Valentine card expressing an extraordinally Love for each other. Although the holiday was named after two of the Early Christian Martyrs named Valentine, the tradition of Valetine's Day became associated with romantic love during the middle ages in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.
With the exchange of Love notes in the shape of hearts, doves and the winged cupid, these form of handwritten Love notes since the 19th Century have given way to a mass production of greeting cards. Handmade Valentine Day cards became a successful business for Esther Howland in her Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1847 modeling her Valentine Day cards after those of the British. Although Esther Howland's father operated a large book and stationary store, Esther Howland got her inspirations from an English Valentine she received. Before becoming popular in the United States, the art of sending Valentine's Day Cards was clearly practiced in England.
With Christmas being the first largest day for sending out cards, Valentine's Day is the second largest card sending day with an estimate of around one billion Valentine Day Cards sent each year, 85 percent of all Valentine Day cards purchased are by women.
Exchanging gifts, usually from a man to a woman became more popular around the second half of the twentieth century. Roses and Chocolates usually packed in a red satin heart shaped box are usually the typical gifts exchanged on Valentine's Day. Jewelry such as the diamond industry in the 1980's started promoting Valentine's Day as an occasion for Lover's to reward their partners with an extra special treasure.
