Some Facts About The GPS
The GPS Known as the Global Positioning satelite system. Using medium earth orbit satelites transmitting precise microwave signals, this enables GPS receivers to know their precise location, speed, direction and time.Navstar-GPS is it's official name, being developed by the department of defense.
The GPS has been commonly used worldwide since 1983 when President Reagan issued a directive to have the GPS available free for civilian use. The Shooting down of Korean Air Lines Flight 007 in 1983 sparked the initial issue to make the GPS available worldwide.
Map making and land surveying is just a few things the GPS is used for as a tool. Earthquakes are also studied using the GPS because of the precise time reference.
Signals are sent out by a constellation of GPS satellites high above the Earth's orbit. These signals travel at the speed of light through outer space to these satellites, thus determining the position of the GPS signal, transferring the data into more user friendly data and then sending the information to the user.
There are three basic components of the basic GPS:absolute location, movement and time transfer, allowing these applications to benefit many civilians. The first handset of a GPS was launched in the late 1990's, but wasn't available for broader consumer availability networks such as sprint, nextel and verizon until 2002. Nextel opened with the launch, sprint following in 2006 and verizon soon after. The GPS functionality has now started to move ino cell phones in record mass speed making the accessibility to consumers much easier. The Dashboard GPS is still the most easiest and convenient way to display the GPS making it easier for the driver to view a wide screen base for a clearer view. The Garmin GPS system is still the most cost efficient model on the market.
